Hope's Birthday & The Roth Wedding Weekend

This past weekend Hope and I went shopping in Des Moines for her birthday then headed up to Ames for dinner/drinks with our great friend Jennie A. We started the night off with a few drinks at Jennie's dads house then proceeded to Fuji. We enjoyed great food/drinks and definitely conversation. Jennie was doing most of the talked because we were quizing her about her upcoming trip to France. Boy would I love to take a trip over seas some day. Jennie even purchased a new camera which took many great pictures the whole weekend. Here is a quick photo of the sushi that I ordered, there was more but I was hungry. After dinner we headed to Wallabys to meet up with Danny Petersen, one of my buddies, who was bartending. The girls dabbled with a few different drinks there thanks to Danny's cocktail skills. Martinis and Dirty Shirleys were ordered, plus a beer for this guy. Next stop was Capones to see one of Hope's favorites Fritz Stevens. Shortly after we decided to call it a night since we had a long day planned for Saturday. I met up with Danny, Nick Knute and Chase Steinkamp for a golf match at Honey Creek in Boone, IA. Nothing like being on the golf course at 8:30am on a Saturday morning. Teams were Nick & Danny vs Chase & I in 5pt. We ended up losing by 7pts, but here is a quick photo of the scorecard. Nick shot 83, Dany shot 82, I fired the 78 and Chase shot 87. Thanks again boys for a great time on the course and to Danny Pete for hooking me up with a new white ISU golf polo for tailgating this year. The main event of the night was the Roth Wedding. Tyler and Renee had a gorgeous wedding that day at the Gateway in Ames, IA. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding. The picture above includes McBride, Drama, Myself & PHall. We enjoyed great food, great music and great conversation. Once again the boys performed the Soulja Boy dance for all to see. We used to kill it at SIPS, then we performed it on Drama's boat (please check facebook), our wedding we tore up the dance floor & this time we even got Renee involved. It was great to reconnect with many friends that we havent seen in a long time. One of my favorite parts of the wedding were the M&Ms on the tables. And yes I did take a picture. I just wanted to thank Tyler & Renee again for allowing us to take part in their glorious day. I look forward to seeing you guys at some Iowa State football games this season. Here is a quick photo of me and Mr. Roth.
I will make sure to post pics and updates after the ISU football game this Thursday.

GO Cyclones!!

Boys/Bachelor Party/Briarwood

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending one of my best friends bachelor party. Cory Wiederin is due to get married in October and I also have the pleasure of standing up for him then, but this wkend was all about one last go around as a single man. We planned a great wkend for all. It started off with Tdub and I driving down to Fuzz's Friday night to meet up with him, Cory and Fred. We ended up grilling out and have a few drinks there. Pretty sure Fuzz had 10 beers down before TDub and I arrived, the apple doesnt fall far from the tree. After dinner for some reason we decided to go to Tonic - a little bar on the north side of Ankeny. This is where the night jumps into over drive. It is only right to have a few shots with the bachelor, so each one of us (TDub, myself, Fuzz) bought a round of drinks & a round of shots. Not even thinking, we all looked at our phones at the same time. All 4 of us got a text message from the same person asking what bar we were at. We all knew what he had in mind. It was Pudy. Not that he was going to meet up with us or anything, the kid was probably sitting on his couch in Las Vegas playing Xbox, he wanted to participate in the night some how. Low and behold I finally told him what bar we were at and Pudy calls the bar, orders a round of drinks plus Patron shots, gives his credit card # over the phone, which would be great and all if he wouldnt have closed his tab. Pudy thanks for the shots/drink by the way!! After that happened we all jumped into the normal routine whenever we get together, telling the same stories, laughing like its the first time we have heard that story and talking college football. After a few more rounds of drinks, me trying to hussle a few pool games it was time to leave. Fuzz's sister was supposed to pick us up, but that wasnt happening. So we decided to hoof it home. This walk was brutal and TDub was the drunkest guy in America. I wont bore you too much with the walk home, but TDub was all over the place, dont know how many ppl he called on the way home, and Fuzz, Cory and I beat him home by atleast 10 minutes. The walk took us over 30 minutes, not the most fun thing to do at 1:30am. The next day which I thought was "the official Bachelor party" was full of even more fun. I lined us up to play 18 holes at Briarwood Golf Course in Ankeny. Everyone was hurting from the night before, especially TDub, but the rule was that you had to have your first drink of the day on the #1 tee. Fuzz, Cory and I were amazed at how good a cold beer actually tasted at 9am after a long night of drinking. Now to set the story up, Cory and TDub had been talking smack to eachother all week about this golf match. TDub thought he was going to wipe the floor with Cory and Cory thought he didnt have a chance, but I kept pushing him to get a few strokes a side and then he would have a chance. Well after a few drinks Friday night the 2 of them agreed on 7 strokes a side (14 total) which I thought was very generous on TDubs part, but he did say he was playing good. Corbo drained a 40 footer on the first hole for bogey, and TDubs jaw about hit the ground. Everyone had a blast playing golf even Fuzz, who was playing in flip flops (one actually broke cuz he was swinging out of his shoes). There was only 1 birdie of the day (I chipped in on the 4th hole). One hole I attempted to run over TDubs ball, but ended up hitting the side of it and knocking it under his cart that was parked next to him. Fuzz and I were laughing so hard and looking back at Terry that we almost ran into a tree. But the swing of the day had to be when Cory hit a big ol'slice and it smoked a house. Everyone lost it, and it was great seeing Cory tip toe into the homeowner's yard to retrieve his Top Flite XL. When the golf ended and the beer cans were empty the match of the millenium was TDub 105 and Cory 116. He had done the unthinkable and took down the Giant. There really isnt much to report on from Saturday night. I attempted to drink more but ended up back at the hotel before 10pm & the rest of the crew (including Cory's dad Bob bitch'n) were home before midnight. It was a great wkend, capped off with a great breakfast Sunday morning - thanks Embassy Suites. Thanks for Fuzz & Janelle for the rooms at the Embassy Suites. I am glad it was my last bachelor party of the year. Thanks again Cory for the invitation and I am looking forward to a few more tee times with you at Briarwood & the Carroll Country Club this Fall.

Time to switch gears quick and talk about our plans for the next few weeks. It will be Hope's birthday this Friday (Aug. 27). She is turning 21......hahaha....just kidding, but I am sure Jennie A & her will be partying pretty hard. After Hope's birthday we will be attending Tyler & Renee's wedding in Ames, IA on Saturday Aug. 28. I am trying to schedule some golf that morning at Ames Golf & CC with a few buddies, hopefully I can get 18 in before the ceremony starts. Since we will be in Ames for the whole weekend we are planning on picking up our ISU Cyclones season football tickets. We are both looking forward to attending all the home games this year. Stay tuned for pics and posts from the 1st game Thursday Sept. 2nd against Northern Illinois.

Remember the main thing is keeping the main thing the main thing.

August is flying by...but has many more events to come

I cant believe that we have been married for 2 weeks now. Feels like it just happened. Time has just been flying by lately and I dont know if its good or bad. August has been low key so far. Hope and I spent a few days up at Boji, then we have hung around Carroll the past 2 weekends. Been trying to fill up the calendar with ISU sporting events plus all the weddings we still are attending. The next 2 1/2 months are going to be a wild time. Up next on the agenda for me is Cory Wiederin's bachelor party this coming weekend. Plans are to play golf at Briarwood in Ankeny Saturday morning, then ICubs baseball game that night, and then follow TDub around downtown Des Moines since he is such a socialite there. The party got moved from Kansas City to Des Moines due to a few of the guys not being able to make it, but it works out great cuz now I can attending the ISU Athletic Dept equipment sale in Ames on Sunday, Aug 22. Always need more Cyclones gear.

Next week includes one of the most important days of the year to my wife - her birthday (Aug 27). We have planned to leave Carroll on Friday and head to Des Moines or Ames to do some shopping and have lunch at some place fun. We will be meeting up with a bunch of our friends for dinner in Ames that night, then I am sure PHall will make sure we end the night at SIPS (which is fine by me of course). Also that wkend I will be playing golf with a long time friend Danny Petersen, which is always a great time. Then that night we will be attending Tyler & Renee's wedding in Ames - I have been looking forward to this for awhile, should be a great time.

Now for the event everyone is looking forward to - Sept 2nd, Jack Trice, Ames, ISU vs Northern Illinois - College football is almost here. Hope and I will be ordering our season tickets soon. I think its going to be a great season, and great to spend more time in Ames. I will make sure to post after each game.

This weekend an old friend, but a good friend of mine (Nate Ward) came to visit. We played golf at the Carroll Country Club on Saturday. Our group consist of Nate, myself, TDub, Mark Huegerich and Nick Knute. We had 2 different money matches going on. A skins match between Nick, Nate and I then a 5pt match putting Nick & Mark VS TDub & I. Nick cleaned house on the back 9 to take the skins match, but TDub and I held on to 22 pt victory. I should have took the individual honors with a 79, but Nick had 78 on the scorecard (he didnt count hitting a ball out of bounds), Nate shot 82, TDub fired a 98 and Mark had a 102. It was a great start to the weekend. There were many great shots between our group. TDub dialing in a PW from 100 yrds out on a par 5 and sticking it to 4 ft (yes he did make the birdie). Mark chipping in from 20 yrds off the green for his lone birdie of the day. I about jarred one from 120 out and did get a photo of it.
Once again we would like to thank everyone for all of their help the past few weeks. We are still waiting to get the professional pictures back, but I promise to upload them ASAP.

Looking forward to tailgating at Jack Trice in a few weeks, and getting back to Cyclone nation!!

Floods of 2010 - Ames, IA

Wow is all I have to say after looking at all the pics and video coverage of the floods going on in Ames, IA this morning. Hilton and Jack Trice are getting hit hard. The parking lot has turned into the 5th largest lake in the state of Iowa. The ISU football team showed up this morning with thousands of sandbags to fill while the ISU basketball team has been throwing bricks all day (atleast you know they are in mid-season form already). The football season is 3 weeks away from kick-off and as much as I would love to rent a pontoon and tailgate for a football game like its the 4th of July at Boji I dont think the Athletic Dept wants to put docks in by the Jacobsen Building and this guy is not walking into the stadium in hip-waders. On a serious note I really hope the best for both stadiums and the city of Ames. Hopefully the water will crest soon and get out of town. Too bad we cant dig a trench straight East of Ames about 137 miles.

All the pictures posted were taking by Danny Petersen.

PGA Championship Preview / Results from week 16 of League

The final Major of the year is upon us - The 92nd PGA Championship from Whistling Straits. Its the day before the first round, and my pre-first day of a Major routine is to make my picks. I have only had 1 great tournament and that was the US Open where I picked 4 of the top 10 (one being the winner Graeme McDowell). Had to take a mid-blog break to go over to Kum-n-go for a fountain soda, feeling super good now. Besides Philly-goat winning the Masters, this year has been a year of 1st Majors so I am going to make my picks based on that. Dont get my wrong here, I love watching Phil, Tiger, Zach Johnson, Big Ern and the normal favorites on Sunday afternoon, but I decided to switch it up this week. I still hope Zach Johnson wins or finishes in the top 5 (you always have to cheer for the fellow IOWAN).
Here are my 5 picks for the 2010 PGA Championship.
Dustin Johnson: I had him at the US Open and he pissed it down his leg. Bounced back with a top 20 at The Open though and he has the talent to be there on Sunday. I just hope his caddy helps him with his club selection if he is in the final groups.
Paul Casey: The only European in my picks. After some great play at St. Andrews, Paul is looking to bounce back after letting The Open slip away. He still isnt a lock for the Eurpoean Ryder Cup team, so he needs a strong showing here to bounce into an automatic qualifier spot.
Anthony Kim: He is back!! Word is that the hand is feeling good, so I had to put him back in my picks. Im not expecting a victory out of AK, just want to see him gear up for the Ryder Cup in October.
Matt Kuchar: This guy has been one of the hottest players on Tour this year without a W. He is very technical player and finished in the top 10 in 20 events this season. Only thing I am worried about is that he has never made the cut at a PGA Championship.
John Daly: Have to go with the 1 dark horse. Daly showed us some great golf at The Open this year, and I think Whistling Straits sets up kind of like a links course. Plus as you can tell from the photo below Im a follower of JD on twitter.
Update from week 16 for Men's League at the Carroll Country Club - Kasperbauer Cleaners is now out of last place!!! With a commanding victory over Elin's 9 irons last night we have jumped into a tie for 2nd to last. We won 58-14. The team played very well. We had a sub win 8 holes for us, TDub won 6 & lost 1, Knute shot 35 (2 under) but tied his match 3-3, and I won 8 & lost 0. We are playing some of our best golf as a team lately, on a 5 week winning streak now. Only 3 more weeks to improve our rank, and if we continue to play this way we should be able to catch the 3 teams in front of us.

Don't play too much golf. Two rounds a day are plenty.

AK is back!!!

This week at the PGA Championship I am ready for the return of one of my favorite golfers AK (Anthony Kim). This is the final Major of the year and it would be great to see him back to great form and finish well. I just want him to be gearing up for another great run during the Ryder Cup this October.

Go get'em AK!!

Our LOLA bug

My next post was going to be the professional photos taken before/during/after the wedding, but they have not been developed yet and Hope and I are trying to sell the rights to the photos to US Weekly. We decided to post some pics of Lola. We have had Lola for almost 2 years now, and we spoil her constantly, but so does everyone that meets her. I remember questioning Hope's decision on getting a new puppy, but now a day doesnt go by that I am glad she got Lola. As her parents we baby her all day, every day, but she has won over Hope's parents. Her dad carries treats with him all the time and has nicknamed her "Fancy Pants." Hope's mom saves food in a little bag for Lola when she comes to visit or stays the weekend. My mom always lets her have certain chew toys at her house, even though Hope and I dont really like her having them because sometimes they make her sick. Lola has adapted to our house very well. She thinks every room is her room. She loves the big fenced in backyard. Where she turns into a hunting dog and chases birds/rabbits/squirrels. She has yet to catch anything, but we are still waiting for the day when she drops a dead animal off at the backdoor.
Here is a picture of Lola back when we first got here. She was soo tiny.
Well not much has changed after the wedding, besides now I have a ring on my finger. And I know what everyone is thinking, yes it is a little different playing golf with a ring on. I played yesterday with Nick Knute, shot 35, so it didnt affect me too much, but it will be something to get used to.

Hope and I went up to Boji for a few days and stayed in my Grandpa & Grandma Zeigler's RV at the Cutty's Resort. We are still planning on going on a Honeymoon or possible a few smaller trips, but this was a great way to get out of town and just relax. We got to meet up with her aunt, uncle and cousin (Kelly, Wayne, Rachel) for drinks at the Barefoot Bar. We also met up with my uncle Randy and his girlfriend Abby at Maxwell's for sushi and drinks. Randy and I were loving the sake shots. When we arrived back to our home, the place was filled with presents from the wedding, we made out really well, THANKS to everyone for the great gifts. The best gift in my mind was our new Weber Grill. We did a lot of grilling this wkend with family. The grill is really battling Lola for the favorite child title.

I promise to put up great pics from the wedding and even get Hope to help me blog about the wedding day in detail. Last night while we sat around the fire with friends enjoying some cocktails we decided to make our shed in the backyard into more of a hangout/party bar area. The demo and construction will hopefully happen and be done around the beginning of College Football season. Leaves us 20 some days now. Also I do have my alphabet stamps to mark my golf clubs, I will post pictures later this week.

Keep it in the short grass,

Brad

Wedding Day Pictures - Saturday, July 31 - Mr. & Mrs. Brad Hempstead

NOW PRESENTING MR. & MRS. BRAD HEMPSTEAD. Wow - this day came and went faster than we could have imagined. I remember seeing the countdown on Hope's facebook at 75 days, and then next thing I know I look down at my watch at church and say to myself "Im getting married in 30min." At this moment I am just going to post a few pictures, still waiting on the professional ones to get finished. Hope and I will sit down and go through the events of the day hopefully this weekend. We just want to THANK EVERYONE that helped make this day amazing. We couldnt have done it with out our parents, families and wedding party.

2nd place at the PAR-TEE Event / Wedding Eve

Last Friday was the day before my wedding and what better way to spend it than with 3 of my groomsmen(PHall, Drama, Marcus Hempstead)on the golf course playing in a golf outing. This was our 1st PAR-TEE event, so we didnt really know what we got ourself into. We started on the par 5 #14, great beginning hole, with a chip in for eagle, Thanks to Johnny Drama. We all had a good number of great golf shots through out the day. If we wouldnt have had the Wedding Rehersal/Rehersal Dinner that night, we could have really got after it but like the gentlemen we are we respected the Bride's wishes of not showing up drunk to the church. Unlike Cory, TDub and Casey. We ended up getting 2nd in the event. We shot 51, should have bought 2 mulligans, then we could have tied for 1st. Next year we will be in the 40s, and be able to enjoy the free cocktails a little more.

The Wedding Rehersal at the church went great. Took a while for the groomsmen to figure out that you give a slight bow when you get to the alter (this isnt an MMA fight boys haha). The only hiccup of the practice was Hope and I messing up the same part of our vows. Once I slipped up on my lines I started shaking, and it was like the flood gates opened up on my forehead. I was just dripping in sweat, but I began to came down once Hope fumbled over the same line. Everyone was laughing at the two of us, it was a good way to end practice.

Rehersal Dinner was AMAZING. I wish I would have took a picture of the spread that was offered. Our parents and families planned one heck of a party. It worked out perfect having the get together at Hope's parents place. Everyone was able to meet eachother and enjoy some food & beverages. My aunt Gayle made the trip down from Minnesota with her family - that meant soo much to me. I havent seen Gayle since my cousin Josh's wedding. She is still battling her brain tumor, but she hasnt lost that sense of humor. It was great to spend time with her. We love you Gayle!! Pud(Casey Riedell) and I were hoping that we wouldnt go through the kegs we bought because we wanted to drink off them this wkend when we would be using my new grill(picture to come later this wkend), but we went through all the alcohol we purchased. I guess that type of stuff happens when you invite the ppl we did. Haha. Thanks again to everyone that helped with beverages, food, etc for the wedding rehersal dinner.

After dinner I got to meet up with a few of my pals that I met in the ATL. Mal, Tews, Patrick and Jason made the trip over to witness Hope and I getting married. We are so blessed to have met these guys and to have them as friends. Patrick, Scotty, and Tews even made the trip to Iowa for my bachelor party. I always told them how great Iowa was, and now they know we can party here. Thank you guys for coming and I promise Hope and I will starting visiting. Reunion in Chicago this Fall??
